The art of Japanese prints

Japanese prints (especially ukiyo-e) are a Japanese art movement of the Edo period including not only folk and original narrative painting, but also wood engravings. They are the most famous Japanese classical art form, and the majority of the painters in the history of the archipelago are Edo era painters who produced numerous prints. The most famous of them is obviously Hokusai. Prints are a huge part of Japanese cultural heritage, and largely the reason behind their cultural influence. Indeed, as soon as Japan opened to the world, these prints spread and made Japan a land of art and fantasy.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa

The most famous print is undoubtedly The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai. It was made in 1831 and has been a classic of Japanese culture ever since. Who has never seen the foam of these waves? This painting is the essence of Japan, in addition to being extremely tasteful. To wear it on a shirt is to honor this thousand-year-old art form and Japanese culture.

Great materials

This shirt is made entirely of cotton, the best material without contest for a shirt and by far the most versatile. The advantages of cotton are numerous. First of all it is the only material to be that much hypoallergenic: no other fabric respects the skin as much, and is so little aggressive. Moreover, cotton is a material that easily suits any weather, if it’s cold it will keep you warm enough, and if it’s hot it will be your ally and keep you cool and ventilated. Cotton is also a very comfortable material, you won’t be able to get over the softness of this shirt! Check out our Japanese Shirts!
