Kaijū is a Japanese term for giant monsters in Japanese movies. The Japanese notion of a monster is different from that of Westerners, a kaijū is seen more as a force of nature before which man is powerless and not a force of evil. The very first film of the genre was released in 1954 and was immediately a monumental success, so much so that the very next year a sequel was released, and the year after that too!
